Watch: Albe Falzon’s Iconic Morning of the Earth

Fifty years on, this surf film still holds its line

Albert Falzon, legendary surf cinematographer and former editor-publisher of Tracks magazine, created this iconic surf film in 1972. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the movie was beautifully remastered in 4K, bringing new life to the original footage shot on 16mm AB rolls.

In the ’70s, many of the breaks featured in the film were likely still untouched. The crew journeyed across Australia, Bali, and Hawaii — shaping their own surfboards and building their own homes along the way. The soundtrack by G. Wayne Thomas, which became the first Australian soundtrack to reach gold, perfectly captures the spirit of the era.

Morning of the Earth is often called a must-watch — a timeless gem for anyone who loves surfing or cinema.
